Crime Alert - Shots Fired at Lakewood and Columbia

Loyola Community, 

Campus Safety is writing to inform you that shots were fired around 5:30 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Lakewood and Columbia near the Lake Shore Campus. At this time, no one is reported injured.

While searching the area, the Chicago Police Department located two loaded semi-automatic handguns. Campus Safety is working closely with the Chicago Police Department on this investigation. If anyone has information on the incident, please call Campus Safety at 773.508.SAFE or the Chicago Police Department via 9-1-1 or 312.744.8263. 

Please also keep the following safety tips in mind.

  • Stay alert and tuned-in to your surroundings 
  • Walk or jog with a friend whenever possible
  • Do not listen to earphones while out alone, as this minimizes your ability to hear an approaching threat
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you will return
