October 11, 2015

Loyola Community,

The Department of Campus Safety is writing to notify you about a recent attempted strong-armed robbery near the Lake Shore Campus.

On Saturday, October 10, at approximately 8:40 p.m., two Loyola students were walking eastbound near 1039 W. North Shore Avenue when a male (the offender) stopped them and asked for directions. When they were speaking with him, the offender pushed one victim into the bushes and grabbed the other victim by the arm and demanded money. The offender fled westbound after someone witnessed the offense and shouted.

A description of the subject is: male, dark complexion, 20-26 years old, 5'10''-6'2'', 170-200 pounds, short black hair. He was last seen wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and black Nike tennis shoes.

Campus Safety is working closely with the Chicago Police Department on the investigation. If anyone has information on the incident above, please call Campus Safety at 773.508.SAFE or the Chicago Police Department at 312.744.8263.

Please also keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • When walking alone, stay alert and tuned into your surroundings. Keep your eyes up and off of your phone, iPod, etc.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you will return.
  • Refrain from using headphones or talking on the phone, as this minimizes your ability to hear an approaching threat; it also advertises to a would-be thief that you may have a desirable item to steal
  • Walk or jog in well-lit areas and stay away from alleys.

Please immediately report any suspicious behavior or crimes to Campus Safety by calling 773.508.SAFE or the Chicago Police Department by calling 911.

Sincerely,

Joe Bogdalek
