Loyola Community,

Campus Safety is writing to notify you of four bicycle thefts that occurred on the Lake Shore Campus this past week. In these incidents, the bicycles were secured to bicycle racks on campus with cable locks, but the locks were cut and the bicycles were removed from the racks. Video footage is available showing that multiple offenders were involved.

Campus Safety is working closely with the Chicago Police Department on this investigation. If anyone has information on these incidents, please call Campus Safety at 773.508.SAFE or the Chicago Police Department via 9-1-1 or 312.744.8263.

Please keep in mind the following:

• Bicycle thefts are one of the most common crimes committed on college campuses across the country, and Loyola is not immune. 
• Avoid chains or cables as your sole means of securing your bicycle. These are easily defeated and are usually responsible for the majority of bicycle thefts.
• Do not place the locks close to the ground (or any hard object) where a thief can easily smash it with a hammer.
• Secure your bicycle to bicycle racks only. Securing your bicycle to a railing, garbage can, fence, or other item on campus could result in the lock being cut and the bicycle being impounded by Campus Safety.
• Register your bicycle with Campus Safety and the Chicago Police Department.
