Rome

Loyola’s campus in Rome, called the John Felice Rome Center (JFRC), is a fully operational campus of Loyola University Chicago. It is also the longest established US university program to operate continually in Italy, having served as a fully equipped American campus since 1962. The JFRC campus is a green oasis spanning five acres in the upper Balduina district of Monte Mario, Rome’s highest hill. This neighborhood is home to diplomats, senators, judges, and other distinguished families, and it is only a short bus ride to Vatican City and the historic center of Rome. Within easy walking distance are shops, cafés, restaurants, banks, and a post office.

A map of our campus neighborhood can be found here.

As a Rome Start student, you will join a tight-knit community of 200 other students from throughout the US and around the world. Two populations of students study at our Rome campus: Study Abroad students and Rome Start students. Our study abroad students make up the majority of our student population in Rome. Most of these students come from Loyola’s home campus in Chicago, although we also host visiting students from other universities throughout the United States. We find that our Rome Start students integrate seamlessly into the general student population on campus.

The Rome Center is being infused with new and renovated facilities, making it a more modern, student-centered campus. It's all part of our ongoing investment in you. Planned additions and renovations include:

  • Renovated fine arts studio
  • New auditorium and conference hall
  • New boardroom
  • New outdoor terrace
  • Renovated athletic center
  • Renovated student residences
