DETAILSHistory Undergraduate and Graduate Students Receive University-Wide Awards and Honors
This fall, history students have received university-wide honors. PhD candidate, Hope Shannon, was awarded the 2019 President's Medallion for the Graduate School and four undergraduate and two graduate students were inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society.
President's Medallion
Each year, a student from each college/school is awarded the university's highest honor, the President's Medallion. The award recognizes outstanding students for their leadership, scholarship, and service. This year, the Graduate School's winner was Hope Shannon. Hope reflects on her role as a public historian in her interview with the university, "history can be incredibly personal and heartbreaking, and public historians can help people navigate history's meaning in and impact on their lives and the lives of others." Read Hope's full interview here.
Alpha Sigma Nu
Alpha Sigma Nu is the international honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education. Inductees demonstrate an intelligent appreciation of and commitment to the ideals - intellectual, social, moral, and religious - of Jesuit higher education. Students are eligible for Alpha Sigma Nu if they are in the top 15% of their class and demonstrate a record of loyalty and service. Four history undergraduates: Elias Crum, Jacob McAloon, Meghan Olson, and Lillian Spikings, and two graduate students: Cate LiaBraaten and Emily Davis, were inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu this year. The induction ceremony and reception was held on October 27th.
