DETAILSFaculty Members Attend International Medieval Congress
Dr. Tanya Stabler (left) and Dr. Theresa Gross-Diaz (right) at the conference.
Two faculty members presented this summer at the International Medieval Congress held each year at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. Scholars across fields gather to discuss topics related to the Middle Ages. This year’s theme of “Materialities” examines recent scholarly interest in “things, theories, and methods as they relate to an expansive understanding of ‘materiality.’” Besides traditional conference panels, the International Medieval Congress hosts a variety of fun events related to the Medieval world.
Dr. Theresa Gross-Diaz is an Associate Professor and co-director of the Medieval Studies Program. Her research focuses on Biblical commentaries in Medieval Europe but she also consults on Medieval art exhibits. She organized “The Material Culture of Urban Schools and Universities” panel at the conference. Dr. Gross-Diaz presented a paper titled “Psalms and the City: Scholastic Commentaries Take to the Street.”
Dr. Tanya Stabler joined Dr. Gross-Diaz on this panel. Dr. Stabler is an Assistant Professor whose research examines the social and cultural history of Medieval Europe. She is particularly interested in the era’s gender dynamics in religion and schools. The picture below shows her presenting a paper titled “Building Pastoral Reform in Medieval Paris.” Our department is proud to have their representation in Leeds!
