Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I declare a WSGS major or minor?

Students can apply for a major or minor via LOCUS. We recommend majors make an advising appointment with the Program Director.

Do I need to take WSGS 101 before taking other WSGS classes?

Not necessarily. Certain 300-level WSGS courses might require students to have taken either WSGS 101 or 201, but WSGS 100- or 200-level courses do not have a prerequisite. Please inquire with the Program Director if you have specific questions.

Are there any groups on campus affiliated with the WSGS program?

The WSGS office works to support multiple groups on campus. A list of some of these groups can be found here. The office itself has been utilized as a meeting space for groups in the past. Contact us for availability.

Where is the WSGS program office located?

The Women’s and Gender Studies program is located in the Crown Center for Humanities Room 117. Students are welcome to come in during office hours for questions about the program or for another place to study and relax.

What can I do with a degree in Women Studies and Gender Studies?

Lots of things! Check out our “Life after WSGS” page for ideas in considering your future with a WSGS major/minor.

How can I utilize the WSGS lending library?

The Women's Studies & Gender Studies program operates a specialized borrowing library out of our Crown Center 117 main offices.

The library consists of 400+ volumes on the theory, history, literature and expression of gender and sexuality in national and international contexts.

Students at both the undergraduate and graduate level are welcome to stop by our offices to survey the collection. We have also made the details of its contents available here for ease of search. See here to look through the WSGS Lending Library.
