Dr. Jordan “Dr. J” Collins, PhD joined the Wellness Center in Spring of 2024 as a Mental Health Counselor embedded in Athletics. As a former collegiate athlete turned mental health clinician, Dr. Collins approaches therapy based on client needs and from an integrative lens incorporating Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Multicultural lens, and an athletics background. Dr. Collins has experience working with a diverse population, specially focusing on work with BIPOC and sexual minorities (i.e., Queer & LBGTQIA+) student-athletes in acquiring life skills and tools to overcome adversity.  Dr. Collins’ professional interests include clinical psychology, sport psychology, psychological testing (ADHD, personality, biofeedback), individual/team assessment (i.e., team dynamics/culture) sport performance, athlete mental health, athletic transitions, values, sport injuries, outreach, consultation, crisis intervention.

Dr. Collins earned a B.S., in Psychology from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2015. A M.S., in Kinesiology Recreation & Sport Psychology from Illinois State University in 2018. A M.S., in Clinical Psychology in 2020 and Ph.D., in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Sport Psychology and Multiculturalism from Saint Louis University in 2023. Dr. Collins completed his pre-doctoral internship at the University of Southern California, specializing in sport psychology and completed a post-doctoral experience as a clinician for the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets.
