CPKC: Continuous Rail Movement from Mexico through Canada

Continuous Rail Movement from Mexico through Canada

In April 2023, for the first time since 1869, a golden spike was driven to unite two railroads: the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, now known as the CPKC. A single line of transport now runs north through Mexico City direct to Montreal and Vancouver by way of Kansas City.

The formation of North America's first transnational railroad will have broad implications for international trade between the US, Mexico, and Canada, and embracing its potential can bring tremendous economic and social benefits.

This high level presentation by Rob Liss, vice president of MAKA Logistics, focused on the importance of this merger, the history behind it, and key factors to its future success in competing against over-the-road (OTR) service.
