Proposal Process Overview
The Study Abroad Office (SAO) under the Office of Global and Community Engagement (OGCE) manages the study abroad proposal process for all undergraduate faculty-led programs at Loyola University Chicago. The Study Abroad Office maintains oversight over these faculty-led programs and works with the appropriate university units to ensure that policies and procedures set forth by the University are implemented and professional best practices outlined by the Forum on International Education is carried out.
Step 1: Meet with the Director of Study Abroad to discuss your initial interests/plans for a faculty-led program.
Faculty members interested in proposing a faculty-led study abroad program can meet with the Director of Study Abroad at any point throughout the academic year to share their ideas and get guidance on completing the proposal documents. This process generally begins about 14 months out from the proposed program start date.
Step 2: Complete proposal documents in partnership with an assigned SAO staff member.
Step 3: Seek approval from academic unit leadership
Step 4: Submit required proposal documents
Faculty-led proposals are submitted through our GoGlobal portal Proposal (Fall Deadline) or Proposal (Summer Deadline) by the deadlines listed below. The application will ask faculty to submit the following application requirements:
1. LUC Faculty-Led Program Proposal Cover Sheet/Renewal Form
This document provides basic information and a program overview to package with the program proposal document or serve as the renewal form. This document will need to be signed before uploading it to the GoGlobal portal.
This document constitutes the main proposal document. Faculty should concentrate on the academic and logistical information and work with an assigned SAO staff member for any questions they may have related to the health and safety questions.
This is only required for new programs or programs that have not run in the prior three academic years. If a program has considerable academic or logistical changes from one year to the next, faculty may be asked to resubmit this document again.
3. Related Draft Syllabi
4. Faculty/Staff Statement of Responsibility Signature
Step 5: Proposals are reviewed by the Office of Global and Community Engagement and the Study Abroad Advisory Committee. The faculty proposer is notified of the committee’s recommendations and next steps. The review process is expected to take three to four weeks in order to convene the committee each term and reach a decision.
