Recognized Student Organizations
With over 180 student organizations, Loyola University Chicago provides a wide range of opportunities for students to get involved, become leaders that inspire leadership, build and maintain community, achieve excellence, and practice our Jesuit values and Loyola's guiding principles.
There are two types of Undergraduate Student Organization at Loyola University Chicago: Registered Student Organizations and Sponsored Student Organizations. Together, they are the Recognized Student Organizations.
Registered Student Organizations (RSO):
Student organizations that are formally recognized by the University and are originated out of student interest – they are not directly connected or supported by a University department. RSOs are formed by currently enrolled students sharing a common goal or interest and have properly completed the necessary forms on time and agree to adhere to guidelines established by the University. RSOs are organized according to seven different classifications (RSOs may fall under multiple classifications):
Sponsored Student Organizations (SSO):
Student organizations that are formally recognized by the University and are inherently linked to a University department. They are classified as sponsored as they are groups that are departmentally supported. The mission and operations of an SSO are considered mission critical to a specific department and/or the University. The financial resources used to support an SSO come directly from a University department and, therefore, SSOs are not eligible to receive funding through the Student Activity Fund.

If you are logging into LUCommunity for the first time, please follow the steps outlined below:
- Log into LUCommunity: Click here to access our LUCommunity website. Once at the site, the user will be asked to input their Loyola Chicago UVID and password. Please note, this is the same information a user would need to log into Sakai or Locus.
- Edit your profile: When logging into LUCommunity for the first time, the user will be asked to complete a profile. Please complete the requested fields and declare your campus interests.
- Explore! Once a user profile is complete, feel free to explore student organizations, campus events, and campus news.
