Gentile Arena
Joseph J. Gentile Arena
Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics
The Gentile Arena and Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics were constructed as the first 2 phases of the Loyola University Chicago Re-Imagine Campaign, dedicated to the investment in the campus life of Loyola University Chicago's Lakeshore Campus.
The completion of the Norville Center in Spring 2011 marked an important milestone in the Re-Imagine campaign that has transformed the Lake Shore Campus. None of that would have been possible without the generous support of Alfie and Allan Norville (BS '60, trustee). As a member of Loyola's Board of Trustees, co-chair of the Athletics Leadership Committee, and perhaps most importantly, a former star basketball player and diehard Ramblers fan for nearly 50 years, Al Norville's commitment to Loyola--and especially to our student-athletes--has had a transformative effect on all our students.
The renovation of the Joseph J. Gentile Arena and its re-opening in the winter of 2012, upgraded the facility to one of the top venues not only in the Missouri Valley Conference, but also in the Midwest. As Phase II of Loyola's reimagine campaign, the renovations to Gentile Arena have resulted in more of a stadium atmosphere with more chairback seating added to enhance the fan experience. The current arena can seat ~5,000 for most home basketball and volleyball contests.
