Prerequisite: Available to third and fourth year students.
Special Note: During interview months, up to five days may be requested off as excused absences for residency interviews. No more than five missed days are allowed. 
Description:

This elective is an introduction to medical imaging and is intended for both students planning to pursue residencies in radiology as well as students planning to pursue residencies in other fields. Students are exposed to a variety of imaging modalities, including CT, ultrasound, MRI, plain film, nuclear medicine and special procedures. Appropriate indications for ordering imaging studies, integration of imaging in patient care, basic interpretive skills, and observation of procedures will be covered. If desired, students will have the option to spend an extended period of time in radiology subspecialty areas of particular interest to them.

Instructional methods include participation in daily reading sessions and related discussions with Radiology faculty, residents and fellows, daily departmental educational conferences, medical student lectures, teaching files, and web-based educational materials.

Method of Evaluation: Students will be assessed on participation in daily reading sessions, lecture and conference attendance, completion of pre-test and post-test, completion of assigned web-based modules, and preparation of teaching cases.
