Prerequisite: Completion of Medicine or Surgery Clerkship.
Special Note:

*Available to M3 students for four-week rotation only. Available to M4 students for two- or four-week rotation.

On the first day of the rotation, report to the Chief Pulmonary Fellow.

Description:

Students on the elective pulmonary rotation will see inpatient pulmonary consults. Under the supervision of the pulmonary fellow and specialty resident, the student will learn to read chest x-rays and CT scans, and interpret pulmonary function tests. The students will also assist the pulmonary fellow in performing thoracenteses and fiber optic bronchoscopies. There will also be some exposure to lung transplant patients.

Diagnoses frequently encountered during the rotation include: asthma, emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and lung cancer.

Method of Evaluation:

Written evaluation by faculty member. 

This course is graded Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
