About
Dean Sam J. Marzo, MD, FACS, is a proud Stritch School of Medicine alumnus. After serving as interim dean, Dean Marzo was appointed to his current role in 2019. Trained in Otolaryngology, Dr. Marzo devoted a majority of his career to caring for patients and educating students as professor of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and Neurosurgery. He also served as chair of the Otolaryngology Department.
His research and surgical interests include: surgery for hearing loss and deafness, Bell’s palsy, bone-anchored hearing aids, and implantable hearing devices. He has published widely in peer-reviewed articles and has presented at many local and national professional society conferences. Dr. Marzo completed his residency in Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at Loyola Medicine and received a fellowship in Otology, Neurotology, and Skull Base Surgery at The Otology Group at Baptist Hospital (Nashville, Tenn.). He received his bachelor of science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign).
With the exception of one year as a clinical assistant professor at Vanderbilt University and two years in private practice, Dr. Marzo has devoted his career to educating the next generation of physicians at Stritch and caring for Loyola Medicine patients. A member of many professional societies, including the Evans Scholars Alumni Association, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the Chicago Laryngological and Otological Society, Dean Marzo is board certified in Neurotology and Otolaryngology.
