  • John C.P. Goheen joined the School of Communication in the Fall of 2009, bringing with him a wealth of experience as one of America's distinguished educators and video storytellers. With over 35 years in the field, he has earned acclaim as an award-winning broadcast journalist and documentary filmmaker. Having traveled to more than 100 countries, he has documented significant news and historic events where it often aired on major American and international broadcast networks.

    In his extensive television news career, John Goheen worked for stations in Colorado, Utah, Alaska, Washington, and New Mexico. Transitioning to a freelance career, he collaborated with many esteemed news programs such as Dateline NBC, CBS Sunday Morning, CBS 48 Hours and 60 Minutes.

    His impressive body of work boasts over 300 local, national, and international awards, including 16 Emmys. Notably, he has been honored 3 times with the National Press Photographer's Association Television News Photographer of the Year, the pinnacle recognition for a television photojournalist. As a documentary filmmaker, he has secured top accolades from various U.S. film festivals.

    Since coming to Loyola, his work has not gone unnoticed, garnering numerous Broadcast Educators Awards (BEA), including two Best of Festival King Foundation Governor’s Awards for best faculty entry.

    His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Intro to Video & Audio Production, Video Documentary, AD/PR Multimedia Commercial Production, Video Storytelling, and Storytelling Abroad. As an innovative educator, his methods, expertise, and integration of smartphones in the classroom set him apart and

    earning him global recognition as a trailblazer in mobile storytelling. Continuously adapting, Professor Goheen delves into innovative paths in video storytelling, welcoming novel approaches and seizing emerging opportunities. His commitment extends beyond the confines of the Loyola classroom, as he shares his extensive knowledge globally. Simultaneously, he contributes to a spectrum of domestic and international organizations by creating impactful content.
