The Loyola University Retreat and Ecology Campus (LUREC), Challenge Course Program offers adventure education at its very best. Our staff works with each group to custom design experiences (commonly referred to as team building) that fulfill learning outcomes identified by group leaders and incorporate the interests of group members.

Groups are presented with problem solving initiatives and led through low and high ropes elements that are constructed of wood, metal, cables and ropes and offered in a progression that increases in challenge and complexity. Facilitators guide participants, provide skill development tools and feedback and encourage self-reflection, resulting in opportunities for participants to transfer their learning into their everyday lives.

The LUREC campus offers abundant open green space, forested areas and our newly built (2011) low and high ropes elements, a rock-climbing tower, zip line, jump poles, etc. In short, LUREC offers one of the most extensive and exciting challenge courses in the region and a campus that is welcoming, modern and unique within the Chicago area.

About Loyola's Challenge Course

The LUREC Challenge Course elements were built in 2011 in a wooded area of campus that provides the perfect setting for challenge, reflection, team building, and learning. We offer customized programs for students (8th grade, high school, college/university), corporate groups, adults, sport teams, girl/boy scout troops, youth ministry and others seeking to help their group and the individuals who make up their group, build skills through purposeful challenge.

Helping groups develop their goal setting, problem solving, and leadership skills is fundamental to all LUREC programs. By utilizing learning outcomes specific to each group, these skills are brought forth in ways that are fully applicable to everyday life at school, the workplace, church or home.

The following pages provide details on the program options available at LUREC, our lodging and meal options, and other important information.
