New York City: Learning Something New

Today we visited Cerberus Capital Management L.P. and McCann Global Health. Today's sites have been phenomenal in terms of the office locations, the engaging content, and the people speaking. While the entire day was rainy, we made the most of our time talking with leaders working in different industries. At Cerberus, we gained invaluable insights into the world of finance, witnessing firsthand the strategies employed by a leading capital management firm. The discussions were enlightening, and the expertise of the speaker was truly impressive. Similarly, our visit to McCann Global Health provided a fascinating glimpse into the realm of healthcare marketing. The presentations were captivating, shedding light on innovative approaches to addressing global health challenges.
At Cerebrus, our site contact, Daniel, talked about his firm, which participated in alternative investing. One of the topics most intriguing to me was that of real estate and the growing complexity of data and electric vehicles. These developing needs require great amounts of land that might not be available. For example, Daniel mentioned implementing new EV ports would require 20 megawatts, about the size of a 20,000-person community. With this, it can be difficult for states like New York to find this large of a space to introduce multiple EV ports. This conversation, among many others in this session, was educational and interesting. Even though I am not a finance major, I found a lot of value in our visit, and I learned so much more about alternative investing.
At McCann Global Health, our group talked to Michael, who is a current Creative Director at the company. This session was interesting to me because it connected my two interests of marketing and healthcare extremely well. I had not previously considered the possibility of working at a communications agency in the past, but our meeting with Michael totally changed my mind! The sample ads that we looked at and the discussed process of creating advertisements for healthcare organizations and pharmaceutical companies drew me into the creative world of healthcare marketing. Something that stuck with me was the fact that working with an agency like McCann Global Health, you know that you are doing something to help others. It is not simply selling a product, but it is educating the consumer and helping them improve their health in various ways. This site visit was absolutely incredible, and I am grateful to have discovered this niche industry.
