New York City: A Busy Day

Today was our busiest day in New York City! I and a few other Ramble attendees started our day off bright and early by creating our very own custom charm bracelets at BeadKraft! They turned out so cute and were a very unique and special way to bring a piece of New York City and the Ramble back with us to Chicago. Next, we headed to lunch with Christopher Thomas, a Quinlan alum who graduated in ‘03. He has been working with Instinet, a fintech firm, for the past 18 years; this was before “fintech” was even heard of! It was a great experience being able to hear how he witnessed the evolution of his firm along with the development of technology over time.
Next, we sat down with Andrew Coombs (BBA ‘09) to hear about his experiences moving to New York City and establishing his own CPA practice. His advice on entrepreneurship and self discipline were inspiring.
After meeting with Andrew, we headed over to an event hosted by the Financial Women’s Association at RBC Capital Markets! This was an incredibly fascinating event as we heard from Helima Croft and Michelle Caruso-Cabrera about current geopolitical events and their impact on oil and energy prices.
Lastly, we had an amazing time at the Alumni Reception, which was filled with remarkable people with endless stories to tell about their experiences at Loyola as well as useful and reassuring life advice and career tips for us all. I had a great time connecting with people who are in impressive roles because of their knowledge and experiences gained at Quinlan.
After a long but extremely successful and productive day, my fellow Ramblers and I enjoyed a late night dinner at our nearest diner. We debriefed the day, bonded over shared interests, and talked about how grateful we are to experience an opportunity like this on behalf of Quinlan. It was a wholesome end to the day, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings us!
