History

In April 2016, Loyola University Chicago hosted its first Health EQ Conference at the Center for Translational Research and Education on Loyola’s Health Sciences Campus in Maywood. The conference launched a discussion to set the priorities for health disparities initiatives at Loyola. These initiatives were part of the University’s "Plan 2020: Building a More Just, Humane, and Sustainable World," a five-year strategic plan that aimed to use its influence to help better society and its surroundings. Following the conference, leaders across Loyola's campuses set to create goals for health disparities initiatives as part of Plan 2020. One of the most important goals was to establish a “Health Disparities Collaborative” to direct all of Loyola's health disparities-related education, research, and community partnership projects.
