Course Design and Development Program
Whether you want to refresh an existing course, create a new course, or explore innovative teaching methods, the Office of Online Learning's (OOL) Course Design and Development Program is designed to help you achieve your goals. Our instructional designers are committed to collaborating with you to create engaging, effective, and student-centered learning experiences.
This program is available to instructors in academic units receiving instructional design support from OOL. The program provides in-depth instructional design support, which often requires a significant time commitment from our instructional designers. Therefore, we have set application due dates by term and limited participation to 1-2 courses per instructor. These guidelines help us ensure there is enough time to design and develop high-quality learning experiences for your students.
Instructional design support from OOL will remain available for short-term requests and projects for instructors who are not participating in the program. If you are teaching an online, hybrid, hyflex, or blended course an OOL-supported academic unit, an instructional designer will reach out before the start of the term to offer support.
To participate in the Course Design and Development Program, please complete the form available on this page. For questions regarding OOL's instructional design support services, please reach out to us at online@luc.edu.
Project Types
We offer three project types in the Course Design and Development program Course Design or Redesign, Course Element Design, and Course Review and Updates.

- apply a new teaching strategy to a new or existing course (e.g., project-based design, ungrading, flipped classroom)
Course Element Design
Partner with an instructional designer to design a specific element of your course. Examples include:
- course assessments (e.g., cumulative exams, writing assignments, quizzes, group or individual projects)
- learning activities (e.g., discussions, practice quizzes, reflection prompts)
- synchronous sessions (e.g., agendas, activities, presentation materials)
- recorded lectures (e.g., scripts, presentation materials, closed captions)
