Description

The minor in French Language offers students the opportunity to master skills of language acquisition, including speaking, aural comprehension, reading, and writing, while also developing basic cultural competency in the French-speaking world.

Requirements

Six courses in consultation with the departmental French advisor. Students with no background in French will begin the sequence with 101. Students with high school or other background language will be placed in French 102-251.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Minor in French Language, students will be able to:

• Demonstrate proficiency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing skills
• Develop analytical skills that will allow them to read and write in French as well as write organized compositions 
• Analyze and interpret texts including newspapers and films in order to better comprehend the representations of cultural identity and make cross-cultural, intercultural connections
• Attain better cultural competency
• Foster a lifelong interest and enthusiasm for French-speaking cultural production
