i am because you are is a selection of recent projects by SkyART students. The title, translated from the word ubuntu, refers to an ancient African philosophy meaning that humans cannot exist as separate from each other, but depend on community and connection to achieve personal and collective goals. Taking inspiration from Della Wells, the pieces exhibited explore issues of identity, community, and personal history using mixed media collage and photography. Also on view is a collaborative painting made during SkyART’s inaugural Fall 2017 session of “SkyWAY Studio” - an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes community, collaboration, and caring.
