About
Starr K. Thornton received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 1994, majoring in both Broadcasting and English. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctorate from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago where her contribution to the inaugural edition of the John Marshall Review of Intellectual Property was published in 2001.
During law school, Ms. Thornton clerked simultaneously with the Law Office of Heather M. Nelson as well as Vincent R. Jones & Associates, P.C. Upon graduating law school, she became the first Associate ever hired by the Law Office of Heather M. Nelson where she specialized in Entertainment Law and contract negotiations. Currently, Ms. Thornton works in the Criminal Division of the Cook County Public Defender’s Office in Markham, IL. She provides criminal defense to indigent clients and has managed and tried juvenile delinquency, traffic, misdemeanor and felony cases.
When not working, she can often be found roaming dusty library aisles and random bookstore shelves in search of the ever elusive, “decent” read.
