About

Sarah Smith serves as the Managing Attorney for the Office of State Guardian, a division of the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission. The Office of State Guardian is the guardian of last resort for adults with disabilities who have been determined by a Probate Court to need a guardian to manage personal and estate issues. As Managing Attorney, Sarah represents the Office of State Guardian in Probate Court, supervises other attorneys and the estate unit, which handles financial matters.

Prior to her current position, Sarah has served as the Fair Hearings Supervisor and Administrative Law Judge with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. Sarah also served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Illinois Attorney General. Prior to her employment with the State of Illinois, Sarah had been an association with Dykema Gossett PLLC in Chicago.

While in law school, Sarah was the Managing Editor of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal and a member of the Wagner Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Team. Sarah also served as an academic tutor for Civil Procedure.

Prior to law school, Sarah taught high school science and math in Compton, California as a corps member of Teach For America.
