Talia Shifron

About

Talia Shifron (she/her/hers) is an adjunct instructor for the Professional Identity Formation Program at Loyola    University Chicago School of Law. She is currently an attorney in Chicago at the Cook County Office of the Public Guardian. In this role, she represents children in abuse and neglect proceedings in Juvenile Court, spending the majority of her time as a litigator in the courtroom, and counseling clients on a wide range of topics related to their future permanency goals, and service related needs. Talia also has experience representing clients in domestic relations proceedings, and prior to this role, spent time as an associate attorney at a family law firm practicing primarily in the areas of divorce, domestic violence, and complex custody-related matters.

Prior to attending law school, Talia participated in a service year in Baltimore with Repair the World, where she designed programs with the Baltimore Mayor’s Office and Baltimore School System to encourage school-wide attendance and mentored five students at-risk for chronic absenteeism in the Baltimore City Public School System. She also mobilized, trained and served alongside community members, and collaborated with service organizations to design community events focused on social justice issues, including education inequality, youth development, homelessness, and food access. Talia also spent multiple years as a pre-school teacher in Chicago.

Talia graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and has a Bachelors Degree from Indiana University. As a Civitas ChildLaw Fellow at Loyola, Talia pursued an interdisciplinary course of study that provided her with the knowledge and skills required to become a leader in the community working on behalf of children and families. During her time in law school, Talia along with her colleague, Sowmya Sastri, founded the Professional Identity Formation course in an effort to address the cultural competency gaps in legal education.
