About
Jim Hagy is Distinguished Lecturer in Residence at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He also taught for many years at New York Law School, Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and as an Affiliated Transnational Professor at Peking University School of Transnational Law. He founded The Rooftops Project for not-for-profit organizations, where he was the Director from its inception in 2010 to its conclusion in 2023. The Project offered conferences and programs both at Loyola University Chicago and at New York Law School.
Prior to his work in academia, Professor Hagy had a 28-year career with Jones Day, the global law firm. He served for 10 years as co-chair of the firm’s worldwide general real estate practice. He also formed and chaired the firm’s Corporate Real Estate Services practice worldwide and served in a variety of additional management roles. He advised a broad range of Fortune 500, FT 500, and private companies in major national and international transactions.
Professor Hagy serves as an editorial board member of the Corporate Real Estate Journal (Henry Stewart Publications, London) and as an editorial board member of the Journal of Corporate Real Estate (Emerald Group Publishing, London). His honors include appointment to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and being awarded the Judge Richard M. Marcus Award for Excellence in Teaching by Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He has also received repeated top-rated faculty awards from CoreNet Global Learning for his workshops and presentations to international business audiences. He is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University, where he obtained his JD in 1978 (Order of the Coif, and an Editor of the Law Review) and his BA in 1975 (with honors, Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude).
Jim also has been a magician for almost 60 years and writes and speaks regularly on the history and theory of performance magic, including a keynote lecture at The British Library (London). For almost 40 years, he has also held the honor of being a Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star, the highest level of achievement with this London-based, global organization of professional magicians. In 2023, he received the Literary Award from the Milbourne Christopher Foundation for his lifetime's work writing about the history of conjuring (performance magic).
