About
Sharon Ferguson began her career clerking for the Chancery Division of the Cook County Circuit Court, researching and analyzing complex matters related to declaratory judgment and class actions. She continued enhancing her extensive legal writing and analytical abilities while clerking with the Illinois Appellate Court for approximately six years, where she analyzed appellate briefs in all areas of the law, including employment, corporate, products liability, contract disputes and criminal matters. She also addressed jurisdictional, procedural and substantive issues; and drafted memorandum orders and opinions in cases of first impression.
Her background also includes private practice litigation in both Illinois State and Federal Courts, practicing in the areas of medical malpractice, commercial litigation, professional liability and insurance coverage.
Ms. Ferguson’s myriad of experience also includes public service to Illinois State government, by overseeing multi-million dollar procurement contracts, drafting complex intergovernmental agreements, investigating agency-wide discrimination, harassment and retaliation complaints for over 1,300 employees, and labor relations.
Not only does Ms. Ferguson have a passion for the defending the Black Letter rule of law and ensuring that the rights of individuals are defended, she also believes in giving back to her community. She has served with the Black Women Lawyers Association in a number of capacities, including previously serving on the Scholarship Fund Board and as a general Board Member. She has also served as a Board Member of a religious organization where she was a member for over 30 years.
