About
Kelly V. Carter teaches Tax Policy & Inequity and Accounting for Lawyers. Kelly has spent the first 15 years of her career serving as a tax advisor in banking and consultant serving clients in Big-4 public accounting. During her time in banking and public accounting, Kelly focused on state and local income tax, including all aspects of planning, audit defense/controversy, and mergers and acquisition for corporate clients.
Kelly earned her undergraduate degree in Accounting Information Systems at Central Michigan University and her law degree (as an evening student) from Wayne State University, where she also teaches “Accounting for Lawyers”.
Kelly is a member of the Corporate Law Department Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association and formerly served as an appointed member of the State and Local Tax Section Council. Kelly is a native Detroiter (proud resident of Chicago), first generation lawyer, and a frequent speaker on corporate law and tax policy topics.
