About
Jack Block is currently a Commissioner on the Cook County Commission for Human Rights. He also serves as an Administrative Hearing Officer and Mediator for the City of Chicago’s Commission on Human Relations. Jack practiced law at the Sachnoff & Weaver law firm in Chicago for more than 30 years where he focused on civil rights cases and commercial litigation. From 2007 to 2012, Jack was the Deputy Director at the Legal Assistance Foundation where he had oversight of LAF's Housing, Employment, Domestic Violence, Consumer, Elder Abuse, Children's Law, HIV/AIDS, Public Benefits, Matrimonial Law, Education, and Immigration Projects
In addition to his legal practice, Jack has taught at Chicago area law schools for more than 25 years. He is currently an Adjunct Professor and Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at Loyola University Law School (Chicago) where he teaches Mediation Advocacy and a Mediation Practicum Course in which student are certified as mediators and mediate cases in Cook County Small Claims and Landlord Tennant Courts. Prior to teaching at Loyola, Jack was an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University Law School where he helped coordinate Northwestern’s Trial Practice clinical program. He has also taught in the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) program.
Jack has received the Loyola School of Law Convocation Award for outstanding achievements in public service and pro bono service and the ACLU Edwin Rothschild Award for contributions to the cause of civil liberties and social justice.
