African American women experience many disparities including poor diet quality, increased life stress and less success with behavioral lifestyle interventions. There is an apparent discrepancy in the resources that are available to African American women, portraying the lack of health equity in disadvantaged populations. Community engagement can be used to reduce these disparities and promote health equity by promoting health outcomes in women. With an interest in improving health outcomes in women of color, we are working on investigating resilience strategies to reduce stress and subsequently promote diet quality.
