Why is the mission of the Gannon Scholars important to you?

The Gannon Scholar mission in important to me because it encompasses concepts that I'm very passionate about - women's empowerment and social justice. It is intersectional and highlights the need to represent and work with everyone to truly make a difference. It doesn't focus on the theoretical, but instead motivates students to take action and make important ideas into a reality.

What are you interested in researching? Why?

I'm interested in researching a female historical figure that broke boundaries and elaborating on how such a story influenced the present day. I think focusing on an individual and emphasizing the significance of their contributions is an inspiring way to demonstrate the capability of a single individual to influence social structures and institutions. Currently, I'm interested in researching Fatima Al-Fihri, who founded the first degree-granting university in the world.
