Welcome incoming Fine Arts students! We have compiled a number of resources which you may find helpful as you navigate the process of settling in to your new art home at Loyola. 

 

Advising

All undergraduate students at Loyola are assigned one academic advisor.

• If you are a freshman or sophomore, your advisor is in the Office of First and Second Year Advising.
• If you are a junior or senior, Advising is handled by the Deans Office of the College of Arts and Sciences.
• If you declare a Fine Arts major, the Department will assign you a faculty advisor to advise on Fine Arts Courses. 

Meeting with your Advisor

Majors and minors should consult their advisor regularly for assistance with meeting major and minor requirements, more general curricular advice, and career suggestions. Consulting with the advisor may be especially helpful in November and April, when students register for the upcoming semesters. Advisors will also give information on auditions and performances.

To find out who your advisor is, log into LOCUS and look at the bottom right of the screen.   

If you believe you are a Fine Arts major and do not see an advisor, please complete an Advising Form. Someone will contact you about Fine Arts advising.

Student Opportunities

• All students are invited to submit work to the annual Student Juried Exhibition including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, color theory, graphic design, ceramics, sculpture, performance, video, installation, sound work, and any combination thereof. All entries are original works of the student and have been completed in the last year. Awards will be announced during the opening reception. Click here for more information.

Ralph Arnold Gallery

The Ralph Arnold Gallery is part of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola. It is named after Ralph Arnold (1928-2006), former Chicago artist and chairman of Loyola's Fine Arts department and its goal is to foster conversations about contemporary art between local artists, students, and the community at large. The gallery presents exhibitions featuring work by Loyola students, as well as local and national artists throughout the academic year. Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) 

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion strives to be the preeminent Ignatian model of social justice education and multicultural student success. Through facilitating intentional reflection of the intersections of identities and critical social analysis of systems of privilege and oppression, CDI seeks to enhance the experience of all members of the Loyola community by cultivating culturally competent agents of social change.

‌The Center for Diversity and Inclusion’s co-curricular programs and initiatives intend to complement the academic rigor provided by Loyola University Chicago. Students engaged in CDI programs and initiatives will develop a skill-set aimed at fostering social justice awareness, cultural competency, and ally development.

• Make sure to visit the Fine Arts program if you would like to learn more about our program and facilities. Note that this is a private tour, separate from the general campus tour. Please be sure to indicate your area(s) of interest: Art History; Sculpture & Ceramics; Drawing, Painting & Printmaking; Photography; or Visual Communication.

• Pick up your required supplies and equipment for Fine Arts classes. Required supplies vary depending on the class and professor. Click here for more information.

• Remember to register for Orientation this summer! Loyola University Chicago Orientation (LUCO) for first-year students is a summer-long online experience comprised of a variety of opportunities to introduce you to academic and student life at Loyola.
