OEC Support for Racial Justice
Updated July 2, 2020.
Recent events -- including but not limited to the killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd -- have once again highlighted systemic racial injustice that continues to plague the United States of America. Understandably, in Chicago and elsewhere across the country, Black and African American communities in particular are experiencing renewed fear, outrage, exhaustion, and despair -- to name but a few of myriad complex emotions.
The Office for Equity & Compliance (OEC), as part of the greater Loyola University Chicago community, stands in unequivocal support of racial justice, which is inextricably linked to our Catholic, Jesuit mission and heritage. The OEC also recognizes that in such difficult times, some members of our community may find themselves needing our services in ways they have not contemplated before.
As one of several offices charged with fostering an inclusive, safe, and accessible academic and workplace environment at Loyola, the OEC reminds our University community that Loyola's Nondiscrimination Policy, informed by the federal requirements of Title VI, clearly prohibits any student, faculty member, or staff member from discriminating against or engaging in other misconduct towards others based on race, color, and/or national origin (among other protected classes).
If you or someone you know has experienced discrimination or discriminatory misconduct, please make a report using this online form. While the OEC is not an advocacy office, our professional staff are equipped and committed to ensuring a just, equitable, and person-centered resolution of any complaint, in accordance with the Comprehensive Policy and Equitable Resolution Procedures for Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct, and Retaliation.
As an entire OEC team, we are honored to serve in furtherance of Loyola's mission of learning, justice, and faith.
