The DOS Virtual Engagement Plan
Our dedicated staff members are working on campus to support students, wherever they are. If you are a student who is in need of support, has questions about navigating the university during these challenging times, or are in distress (or know a student who is), please submit a referral through our Center for Student Assistance and Advocacy (CSAA) reporting website.
What the student of concern can expect from the DOS team after a referral is submitted:
-
A DOS case manager will contact the student of concern
-
A DOS case manager may schedule a meeting in person or by phone/Zoom to discuss the concern
-
A DOS case manager will work with the student of concern to develop a plan of action
-
A DOS case manager will connect the student of concern to the necessary resources as needed
The Office of the Dean of Students will continue to offer individualized support to students based on the referrals that are submitted to Center for Student Assistance and Advocacy. All meetings with the DOS case managers will take place by phone or Zoom. Once a referral or report is filed, a DOS case manager will work with the student of concern to schedule a meeting. Below are the different types of support services the DOS team offers the LUC student community.
- Coordinated Assistance and Resource Education (CARE) support services - Ramblers who may need general assistance overcoming difficulties, navigating University systems, or getting connected to available resources (examples include students experiencing grief or loss, struggling general mental health concerns, or overcoming serious personal difficulties). Submit a referral for a personal concern.
- Behavioral Concerns Team (BCT) interventions - Ramblers whose behavior presents a possible threat to the safety or well-being of oneself or others (examples include suicidal ideation, self-harm, violence or threats against others). Submit a referral for a behavioral concern.
- Equity support services - Ramblers reporting alleged or suspected gender-based or bias-motivated misconduct by any student, staff, or faculty member; reporting any unethical or discriminatory conduct by any University employee (examples include reports of sexual assault, stalking, dating/domestic violence, and harassment/misconduct of any kind motivated by bias against a protected class such as race, religion, etc.). Submit a referral for an equity concern.
The Office of the Dean of Students is prepared to support students by connecting them to the right resources at Loyola and assisting them in navigating personal concerns. If a Rambler becomes unwell, please follow the steps listed below to receive support:
-
Students, faculty, and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 must report their case to the University as soon as possible by e-mailing COVID-19report@LUC.edu or by calling 773.508.7707.
-
All information will be kept confidential. This means that only staff who will be supporting students with a positive diagnosis will be aware of test results. This will include medical providers, a contact tracer, and appropriate residence life staff.
-
For students living in the residence halls, a COVID Care Coordinator will work with you to ensure that all of your needs are met after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
- If you need assistance in navigating academic concerns, submit a referral here and your academic advisor or DOS case manager will contact you to offer support.
Please note: This guidance may change. To receive the most current updates, visit Loyola's "Return to Campus" website.
Whether you live on-campus, near campus, or out of state, please be mindful of the following guidance:
Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. If you think that you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 but are unsure, you can contact Dial-A-Nurse at 773-508-8883 (leave a message if call is not answered) to discuss your concerns.
- An exposure is defined as an individual who has had close contact (< 6 feet) with someone with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 for greater than fifteen minutes.
- If you are exposed and need to self-quarantine you will do so in your residence hall, off-campus apartment, or permanent address. The quarantine period is 14-days as recommended by the CDC.
- If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, you may have access to medical care through the Wellness Center and should contact Dial-A-Nurse at 773-508-8883 (leave a message if call is not answered) or schedule a nurse triage appointment online.
Isolation is for anyone who tests positive for the coronavirus (with or without symptoms) must isolate until they are no longer considered at risk of infecting others.
- Students who are housed in a residence hall with private bathrooms will isolate in their assigned room. Students may not leave the building nor host any visitors.
- Students who live off-campus or at their permanent address will not be permitted on campus and must isolate until they are no longer considered at risk of infecting others.
The Office of the Dean of Students understands the complexities of engaging in a virtual academic setting. It is important for students to prioritize their mental health, especially if they are separated from community supports they would otherwise receive on campus.
Finding mental health support
- If you live out of state, please continue to work with your personal health care provider to establish individual therapy or psychiatric services. If you need assistance in identifying health care providers, call the Wellness Center at 773-508-8883 (leave a message if call is not answered) or schedule a nurse triage appointment online.
- If you are in state and seeking mental health services, please call the Wellness Center at 773-508-8883 (leave a message if call is not answered) or schedule a nurse triage appointment online.
- For general questions or concerns about using these resources, submit a CARE referral.
Resources from the Wellness Center
- In-State students: Individual therapy and psychiatry services are only available to students living in the state of Illinois.
- Out-of State students: Ramblers can still schedule a phone triage appointment and a mental health professional will help you connect to other available resources.
- Some group therapy will be available to out-of-state students; some will be restricted to IL residents
- The Wellness Center has additional resources.
