Major Minor of The Month

Katie Dubielak
Senior
Majors & Minors
Major: Social Work Minor: Political Science, Catholic Studies
Hometown
Toledo, OH (but to quote Ted Mosby, "My parents live in Ohio I live in the moment")

Why did you choose to become a CS Minor: Honestly, it just kind of fell into my lap. I had already taken a class or two that would count for it, and I was enrolled in Dr. Murphy's Christian Marriage class so it just made sense.

What is a fond memory you've had as a CS minor: Telling my parents' friends or people around campus that I am a Catholic Studies Minor and hearing them say "woooooww that's interesting" when they clearly do not think it is interesting.

Favorite Saint: Catherine of Siena (because same name ya know?)

Career Goals and Aspirations: The ultimate goal if I could have anything in my career would be to run for Senate, maybe president someday...

Favorite Catholic Author: Mary Karr. I read Lit and I am just stuck on her she is so real and honest, she is who she is.

Best Catholic Studies class taken at Loyola: Fr. Bosco’s Literature and Catholicism class introduced me to so many books and authors that I would not have read otherwise. This class showed me that “Catholic” books can be fictional and tell a story, rather than just putting doctrine or real life miracles into book form. Here I really started to actually enjoy Catholic literature.

Favorite Service Experience: My ABI to Tucson, AZ, really challenged me to think differently and learn about the things people from other cultures are going through. Although it is impossible for you to walk in someone else’s shoes, on this trip I feel like I got as close to living another person’s reality as I could possibly get.

Most important idea of all time: Hate is not the opposite of Love, Fear is.

Most important invention: Memory foam mattresses

Inspiration to do Good: I want to be treated with fairness and equality, so why should I assume others want and deserve anything less than that.

Central idea of Catholic thought that intrigues you: The idea that God is with you through everything. Even the pain and the suffering. This comes up a lot in Catholic literature and it interests and baffles me every time.

Favorite Movie: I don’t have one favorite but here is my movie philosophy: If I’m going to watch a movie it should take me away from reality. I want to be swept away in fantasy or romance or something that wouldn’t normally happen in the real world.

Pet Peeve: When people think I am shy just because I don’t speak up in large groups, maybe I just don’t want to talk to you?

Favorite Food: Cheese

Favorite type of Music/ Favorite Song:  Indie Pop, Sara Bareilles is my girl

Any Body Piercings or Tattoos: None at all, so boring

Crazy fad went through in the past: None really, like I said I’m pretty boring

Qualities valued in a person: Listening, sense of humor, ability to reach taller shelves than I can

If named the president of Loyola, what would you do as your first presidential act: Give everyone a snow day, whether or not there was actual snow. Also adopt more therapy dogs to keep Tivo company

Nicknames: Sienna, Katydid, Kathy Lee (that one’s a long story)

Most Delicious Item at Portillos: Fries? IDK I’ve only been once and I didn’t even get the cake shake

Pizza Topping: CHEESE, more cheese please

Favorite Season: Winter

Dream Travel Destination: The Galapagos Islands, with an experienced guide so I don’t get killed.

Guilty Pleasure: Old Navy

Something you couldn’t give up if you tried: Cheese, this is why I’m not a vegan

Favorite Green Vegetable: Brussel Sprouts

Meet anyone past or present, who would it be? Obama, because duh it’s Obama

If you could be omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, or omnibenevolent, which would it be? I would be omniscient because I would like to know what my dog is thinking

Favorite Olympic Sport (Summer or Winter): Curling!!
