Emily Mattson, MSW

Career Advisor, Law, Policy & Government Career Community

Emily Mattson is the Career Advisor for the Law, Policy & Government career community at Loyola Career Services. In this role, she advises students interested in pursuing careers in the legal and political world, particularly pre-law students and those motivated to pursue social justice through policy creation and government service.

Emily’s previous experience includes working with formerly or currently incarcerated folks in community re-entry, high school students in pre-college programming, and college students in sexual violence prevention and response. Emily earned a Bachelor of Social Work with a completed French major from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, then went on to earn a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a member of several professional and honors associations, including the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors, the National Association of Colleges & Employers, and the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work.

When not advising students, Emily can be found reading fantasy novels with her cat, Maggie, curled up nearby, watching cheesy action or romance movies, or exploring Chicago’s cultural institutions and restaurants with her friends and family. Born and raised in Evanston, she is passionate about serving the communities she grew up in.

Growing up, Emily wanted to be an actress (kindergarten), a teacher like her mom (8th grade), a psychologist (high school), landing as a social worker.
