What is Club Sports?
Club Sports are student organizations comprised of individuals organized to further their interest in a common sport through recreation, practice, and/or competition against other universities' sport clubs. Clubs typically practice on or near campus twice a week or more and each Club Sport is run by student leaders, with assistance from the Sport Programs Office within Campus Recreation.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Club Sports program is to provide competitive, recreational, and instructional opportunities for the Loyola University Chicago community. We are committed to the development of successful and quality teams with a focus on enhancing the collegiate experience through leadership development, teamwork, sportsmanship, diversity, responsible and ethical conduct, healthy active lifestyles and fun.

What is the difference between Intramurals and Club Sports?
Although both are managed by the Department of Campus Recreation, club sports teams are led and organized by students. Team practices, meetings, competitions, budgets, and fundraisers are organized, managed, and led by club officers and club members. Also, club sports travel to other universities to compete, while those playing intramurals do not practice and only compete against other Loyola students.
Do I need experience to participate?
Not necessarily. Many club sports teams recruit athletes of any skill level and are willing to teach newcomers their sport.
Do Club Sports have try-outs?
Due to the competitive nature of several of the clubs, some club teams do host try-outs. However, the majority of clubs sports do not hold tryouts. For information on a specific team, please contact the club officer.
How do I join a Club Sport?
To join a club sport, please contact the club you are interested in to find out when they hold practices or try-outs. Many clubs hold general information sessions at the beginning of each semester to recruit interested new members.
What kind of commitment do Club Sports require?
Club Sports commitments vary. Some clubs practice year-round, while others only practice in season. Competition attendance may also be mandatory for some clubs.
Are there costs associated with participating in Club Sports?
Membership dues vary for each club. Higher dues can be expected for club sports that require a lot a lot of equipment, special facilities, and plan to travel frequently. Fundraising efforts will help reduce out of pocket expenses for members.
