Cheryl Curry, a recognized, strategic communications expert with more than 20 years of corporate, business, and government experience, is currently the Senior Project Coordinator at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL), a division of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the nation’s largest non-investor owned health insurance company.
Cheryl reports directly to BCBSIL’s vice president and chief medical officer and as part of the health equity strategy team, manages initiatives designed to systematically increase representation of minorities in medicine and outreach programs focused on actionable, sustainable, interventions and solutions to eliminate health disparities and improve the health outcomes for patients. In her role she is also responsible for developing and delivering data driven D & I thought leadership and integrating content into educational programs to increase and promote cultural agility, equity, and inclusion.
Cheryl’s demonstrated leadership in strategic communications stems from a successful career in advertising, media relations, corporate communications, and community outreach. Prior to her current role, Cheryl worked as Midwest recruiter for the United States Census Bureau, and a communications consultant at Aon and Beaman Incorporated, respectively. Her career began at The Oprah Winfrey Show and through various promotions, led to director of affiliate relations where she designed and implemented a variety of public relations, marketing, and image building strategies, and managed the show’s multi-million-dollar marketing budget.
Cheryl earned a Master of Science degree in communications from Northwestern University, graduating magna cum laude. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in radio-television-
film and communication studies from Northwestern University. She is a member of Northwestern University’s Council of 100 and DEI committee.
Cheryl is married to Richard J. Curry, Jr. and has two sons. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and traveling.
