Social, Spiritual, and Cultural Programming

Arrupe College helps build and foster community by planning social, spiritual, and cultural programs to enhance the student experience.

The Student Government of Arrupe College, Student Organizations, and the Office of Student Services each plan co-curricular opportunities including dances, cultural read-ins, movie nights, immersive field trips and open mic events. Arrupe College seeks to create a community that is simultaneously diligent in its academic pursuits, but also finds time to engage in learning outside of the classroom.

Arrupe College Campus Ministry is part of the larger Water Tower Campus Ministry, which serves the needs of students on-the-go and on a mission. In the spirit of the founder of the Jesuits (St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus and namesake of the University) as well as the namesake of Arrupe College (Pedro Arrupe), Arrupe College Campus Ministry offers students opportunities for reflection and meditation throughout the year. All of our programs provide opportunities for students to: create new friendships (and strengthen old ones!) as well as relax, rejuvenate, and recreate (have fun!). In addition to the retreats offered by Lake Shore Campus Ministry at the Loyola University Chicago Retreat and Ecology Campus (LUREC), there are several offerings exclusive to students at Arrupe College:

  • The Spirit of Arrupe experience orients first-year Arrupe College students to LUREC, as well as the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses.
  • The Deepest Desire of the Heart asks us the questions: what is my mission? What obstacles get in my way? Who helps me overcome them?
  • The First Year Retreat is the perfect opportunity to get away from all the challenges of life as a first-year college student through team-building.
  • The Second Year Retreat celebrates your Arrupe College adventure by reflecting on where you have been and toward where you will be going.
