Kevin Sanchez Carrizales, He/They (AA ’24)
My name is Kevin Sanchez Carrizales (He/They) AA '24. I'm here to tell you about my Arrupe College experience.
- Major: AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Psychology
- High School: Northside College Prep
- Involvements: Student Government Arrupe College, Graphic Novel Club, Arrupe Emerging Leadership Program, Arrupe Spirituality Team, Arrupe Alliance, and Arrupe Writing Fellows
How I chose my degree:
I have selected my degree because it is similar to sociology. However, I wanted to navigate an individual's mind, where and how an individual gets to be their own person, either through their environment, culture, and/or society. Learning psychology got me one step closer into understanding the study of social life; that we are social creatures not meant to be alone.
My plans after graduation:
Enrolled at Loyola University Chicago.
Class I never expected to love:
Christian Theology with Dr. Ramos-Baker. He is straightforward with his teachings and will give you a warning about his content. He encourages student participation and practices being on time through his morning quizzes.
Favorite spot on campus:
Arrupe has always been my favorite place, vibrant, easygoing, the staff and students are welcoming and friendly. It is one of the few places where I truly belong.
What was your favorite moment during your time at Loyola?
My favorite moment during my time at Loyola was at the Deepest Desire retreat. We are in the campfire enjoying s'mores and telling stories. At that moment I felt the sense of community and companionship Arrupe has represented.
Some surprisingly cool things about Arrupe:
Arrupe's abundant resources and outreach has guided many students to improve their mental health, find jobs, resume building, and the building block for the careers we choose.
What advice do you have for the incoming class?
This is your opportunity to start new! Even if you did or not did do your best, you are redeeming yourself through a new path of opportunities for leadership, community and clubs.
